Did you know that wall tiles were first made in ancient Syria, the Tigris-Euphrates valley, and Persia? The manufacture of wall tiles for interior and exterior use was well established in Persia by the 13th century. By the 14th century a tile developed in Germany with an ornamental relief and a glaze of green, yellow or brown was in widespread use throughout Northern Europe. From 1600 onwards, blue-painted tiles made in Delft in The Netherlands were renowned.
